The Treasury has dismissed allegations that the national government has not disbursed Sh20, 000 to families whose relatives died in the collapsed residential flat in Huruma, Nairobi three weeks ago to offset burial expenses.
Robert Kinge Anyoni, the Principal Gender Officer in the Treasury said claims by some relatives of the deceased persons that only the Nairobi county government has honoured its 50,000 pledge to the families to help offset burial expenses were erroneous.
Kinge said contrary to allegations that the national government had not honoured a pledge made by the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs Sicily Kariuki of giving each family of the deceased Sh20, 000.
“We have actually disbursed over Sh 1.2 million to the deceased families to help bury their dead,” he said.
Kinge further said the national government has honored its pledge which was made by the CS.
“Reports attributed to a relative of one of the victims of the collapsed building tragedy that they have only received Sh 50,000 from the Nairobi County government and received nothing from the national government are false and meant to besmirch the government,” said the official.
Kinge further told those who have not received the money to contact the Huruma location chief and stop rushing to the press to tarnish the name of the government in the media.
