Africa now a fertile ground for cybercriminals - Microsoft

Almost half of Kenyan businesses hit by cyber attacks

The H1 2026 Threat Report's global findings, with artificial intelligence (AI) now both a target and a tool and established techniques adapted to new platforms, frame the Kenyan picture rather than diverging from it.

Despite rapid tech adoption, Kenyan organisations remain vulnerable to cyberattacks targeting outdated systems and unpatched software.
ESET’s latest Threat Report reveals a 145% surge in QR code phishing “quishing”, and a doubling of attacks using known Microsoft Office documents, highlighting how attackers are leveraging simple but effective techniques.
ESET experts say the main risks are not new or advanced threats, but old weaknesses that have not been fixed. The report encourages Kenyan businesses to focus on the basics: patching, endpoint protection, and making sure users are aware of threats. This can help close the security gap.
