Wawira Njiru Named CNBC Changemakers 2025 For Transforming School Feeding in Africa

Wawira Njiru, the visionary Founder and CEO of Food4Education (F4E), has been recognized on the prestigious 2025 CNBC Changemakers: Women Transforming Business List.

The annual list celebrates 50 trailblazing women who have redefined industries, tackled persistent challenges with innovative solutions, and paved the way for sustainable growth.

Since its inception 13 years ago as a small passion project in Ruiru, Kenya, F4E has grown into a continental movement, now serving 500,000 children daily with nutritious meals.

The organization’s impact extends beyond hunger relief, improving education outcomes, creating jobs, and strengthening communities.

Wawira’s innovative approach has been instrumental in scaling F4E’s operations, including the development of Tap2Eat, a proprietary e-payments platform, and Giga Kitchen, Africa’s largest green kitchen, which produces 60,000 meals daily using eco-friendly technology.

Kristin Groos Richmond, F4E Board Chair and former CEO of Revolution Foods, praised Wawira’s leadership, stating, “Wawira is a transformational CEO who leads with vision, heart, and focus. Under her guidance, F4E has set new benchmarks for school feeding innovation, quality, and sustainability, sparking a movement for locally rooted, African-led solutions.”

Wawira expressed gratitude for the recognition, emphasizing the collective effort behind F4E’s success. “This honor reflects the work of our formidable team and the changemakers on the ground who bring our pan-African vision to life every day. Together, we are unlocking the potential of a new generation, ensuring no child is left behind,” she said.

Driving Systemic Change Across Africa

School feeding is more than a meal—it’s a cornerstone of community development and a pathway to a more equitable future. F4E is reshaping Africa’s school feeding landscape by sharing its sustainable, scalable blueprint with governments and public sector leaders.

By 2030, the organization aims to expand into two additional African countries, nourishing 3 million children and driving systemic change.

This momentum aligns with a broader shift across the continent, as 70% of African countries now prioritize universal school feeding in their budgets.

F4E’s model, which combines philanthropic support, government commitment, and parent ownership, is proving that locally led solutions can deliver lasting impact.
