The Tax Justice Network Africa (TJNA) has formalised a strategic partnership with the African Future Policies Hub (AFPH) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Sustainable Climate Finance and Taxation in Africa Civil Society Learning Event held on 5 September 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This milestone reflects the shared vision of both organisations to strengthen Africa’s voice and influence on global tax, environmental, and development finance issues. It marks an important step in advancing collaborative efforts to address the structural barriers that continue to undermine the continent’s economic and social transformation.
Through this partnership, TJNA and AFPH will collaborate in key areas, including joint research, knowledge generation, capacity building, and dissemination of evidence-based policy analysis.
The MoU also provides a framework for the co-organisation of national, regional, continental, and international convenings, as well as intelligence-sharing on emerging funding and policy opportunities.
Speaking at the event TJNA’s Partnership and Institutional Learning Manager Nelly Busingye emphasised the importance of the MoU.
“The partnership between TJNA and AFPH is timely; it will give us an opportunity to enhance our areas of work through collective research and advocacy. Ultimately facilitating a strong intersection between tax, environment, and fiscal policy,” stated Ms. Busingye
The two organisations are bringing their expertise and resources together to equip African policymakers, civil society actors, and citizens with the tools and knowledge they need to advocate for fair, inclusive, and sustainable development finance policies.
This partnership builds on TJNA’s longstanding efforts to promote multi-stakeholder collaborations that challenge systemic inequalities in global financial systems. It also reinforces AFPH’s mission to shape forward-looking policies that safeguard Africa’s future amid climate, economic, and social challenges.
As the continent navigates pressing issues such as illicit financial flows, climate financing, and debt sustainability, this partnership represents a critical step towards advancing transformative policy solutions.
Together, TJNA and AFPH seek to drive an agenda that ensures Africa’s development is not only resilient but also just and inclusive.
