Safaricom executive in charge of Financial Services for M-Pesa, Mr. Ronn Webb has left the company citing personal reasons, the Telco’s CEO Bob Collymore has announced.
The Director who has worked at Safaricom for over a year now is being replaced by Brian Wamatu, who will take over as the Interim Director of Financial Services.
Wamatu is the head of M-PESA Product Development and is also responsible for the M-PESA Roadmap which is expected to create exponential growth in mobile payments and deepen Financial Inclusion.
Webb joined Safaricom from Equity Bank Group where he was the head of payments within the Tier 1 lender, he was responsible for driving innovation around Equitel payment platform. Prior to that post, Webb was Group CTO at the Paynet/PesaPoint Group for 18 years.
Webb leaves Safaricom as the company is undertaking a phased upgrade of its M-Pesa platform. The improvement, which began on 30 June, will see new M-Pesa features added, some functions automated and reduce the need for customers to make requests at the call center.
