Germany-based solar energy company Mobisol has launched a flagship store in Kisumu as part of a wider scheme by the firm to provide rural areas with affordable and reliable off-grid solar systems.
Mobisol’s East Africa’s Chief executive Henrik Axelsson said the company will rely on its innovative products and research to tap into its target market with access to high-quality solar products.
“Rural communities in Kenya continue to use unreliable fossil fuels like kerosene, which are not only harmful to the environment and people’s health but are also costly to maintain – yet, solar energy is in abundance,” said Axelsson.
Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma said the store would help communities save on energy as well as depart on reliance on other expensive sources of energy like Kerosene.
Mobisol’s solar systems range from 80 to 200 Wp at competitive prices. The company’s large solar home systems come complete with several ultra-efficient LED light sets, portable lantern, mobile phone charger kit, large high-performance flat-screen LED TVs up to sizes of 32”, portable radio and balance-of-system components including wiring and switches.
The company, retails directly to customers, services over 70,000 households in Rwanda, Kenya and Tanzania, with plans to open additional 20 stores in Kenya in 2017. Mobisol customers enjoy a three-year flexible payment plan via mobile money as well as extended warranties, free installation and free maintenance for three years.
Mobisol established in Kenya in 2016, and boasts of higher capacity and much more powerful products sizes than those of similar providers on the market. The opening of the flagship store comes at a time when there is a strong market transition to solar energy trend within Kenyan communities.
