Emirates has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for the world’s largest floral installation on their life sized version of the A380 passenger aircraft using live plants and flowers.
The project in partnership with Dubai Miracle Garden saw the creation of a spectacular art piece covered in more than 500,000 flowers on a steel and concrete structure that took over 200 installation crew working for 10 hours a day over 180 days to complete.
Dubai, which is already home to the world’s tallest building ‘Burj Khalifa’, the world’s longest painting, largest bus mosaic and the largest reading lesson added the new world record to its belt with the life size structure that is over 72.93m long and has a fuel sage that stands 10.82m from the ground.
The structure includes moving engine fans and other key design features that make it as lifelike as possible.
It is made from recycled materials and installed with a drip water system to keep the plants alive throughout.
“We showcase everyday objects and give them life through flowers and plants, creating a connection with our visitors. We hope that when visitors get up close to the Emirates A380 they will get a sense of the scale in which it was built,” said Abdel Naser Rahhal, co-founder and creator of Dubai Miracle Garden.
The Emirates logo alone is made out of a variety of over 9,000 flowers and plants and an additional 100,000 blossoms formed the wings, which reach over 80.27m wide.
The flowers and plants used for the ‘living’ Emirates A380 installation were sustainably grown and harvested over a four month period at Dubai Miracle Garden nurseries in the UAE.
In full bloom, the aircraft structure will have an unparalleled total stem count of 5 million flowers and will weigh over 100 tons.
The installation is the largest structure ever built at the garden and is set on a flowerbed of 7,460 square metres, which is around 10 per cent of Dubai Miracle Garden.
