Kenya National Police SACCO also took first position as Best SACCO in the Capitalization award category.
The adjudicators considered the Society’s total shareholders’ funds, which comprise of share capital and reserves as a percentage of total assets. The team also considered the Society’s rate of retention of surplus, which is reflected, in the institutional capital.
These parameters encourage the societies not only to grow their share capital but also to retain more of their earnings to build on their institutional capital for growth.
The Society’s sterling financial performance and high ranking position within the SACCO industry in 2025, is thus attributed to leading profit and returns position in the industry, low non-performing loans and impressive returns to members.
According to adjudication by the Ushirika awards team, for a SACCO to be considered as Best managed, it must have excelled in all the above aspects namely capitalization, savings, credit management, most efficient, Risk management, technology optimization and in the Most Improved category.
The adjudication team therefore considers a combination of all the above award categories to arrive at this award. The weight is distributed among all parameters in order of importance with credit management, most efficient and risk management taking the highest weights. Scores that were more than 100% were capped at 100% to ensure equal distribution of performance among all parameters.
