The ford family is set to make tremendous entry into the Kenyan market targeting growing demand for high performance cars.
By Brian Yatich
In March 2015 CMC Holdings announced that it was set to launch the Ford mustang sports car in the Kenyan market in early 2016.
This aroused the interest of every motor enthusiast and in the country, but why you might ask. The mustang is a brand automobile geared towards performance on the track, a Beast of some sorts.
This year alone, Ford added 4 new cars to the Mustang Family, each targeting specific market demographic. Firstly, there is the 2.3 L Eco boost targeting fuel efficiency, additionally, there are the 3.7L V6, the 5.0L GT and Shelby GT350 which is the cream of the crop, all about performance.
The second one is the Shelby GT350 which is a track car, and requires a skilled driver because of its high fuel consumption and very high speed capability.
The 5.0L GT is the Mustangs model that is most practical for daily usage without letting go of the rage and fury that is notorious with the Mustang family.
Don’t get me wrong, this is far from an average car, it is a beast that requires taming. The car was designed with nothing but beauty and performance in mind.
This beast, with an aggressive-look is the epitome of American muscle, beneath the hood is a 5 Litre V8 Engine that delivers 435 horsepower and 400lb-ft torque, this raw power will definitely pump some adrenaline with every throttle, if that doesn’t , the sound will surely do the trick.
The engine is intended to maximize power generation from every compression, with large intake and exhaust valves, cylinder heads that feature high-flow ports and intake and exhaust camshafts that have impressive lift.
The 5.0 L exhaust is designed to deliver decibels of sound; surely, what is a beast without the roar.
In terms of safety, Ford did not falter their interest in the safety of the driver and that of the other occupants of the car is demonstrated in several features, including air bags in all possible locations (driver air bag, passenger air bag, side head air bag, rear head airbag, side air bag), advanced braking system (4-Wheel ABS, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes with Brake Assist), an electronic Stability Control and traction Control. Ignoring all of the technical terms, what this simply means, is that you should feel completely safe inside this beast with all the power and the legendary roar it delivers.
Also, the Cars handling on the bends is superb thanks to the front and rear suspension systems working together to provide precise handling and control.
The car exhibits a fully independent rear suspension, a double-ball-joint front suspension, pitch-control during hard acceleration and hard braking and the reduction of body roll improves the overall feel and ride compared to the previous generation of mustangs.
The Mustang is equipped with selectable drive modes which enable one to choose the preferable car handling dynamics depending on the road surface or track.
The ford has four pre-defined settings for the driver to choose: normal, snow/wet, sport and track. This blend of electronics and mechanics enable the car to be optimized for both the comfort of the driver and performance efficiency on the track.
The car’s interior is a blend of luxury and the feel of a racing car. The leather interior is a symbol of class, air-conditioning to keep you warm and comfy, it also has a satellite navigation to ensure you don’t get lost, capacitive touchscreen and voice recognition on the sync interface to control music, hands-free calling and to get directions on the navigation system.
The car’s warranty is a major issue for many consumers and car-companies alike. This is because of the liability it imposes on the car-company and the need to take care of the consumer.
Ford will come with a warranty plan for the 2016 Mustang buyers covering 3-5 years depending on different scenarios. This should make the customer feel covered from manufacturer’s defects, if any.
The Mustang is expected to target the growing demand for high performance cars among rich and middle class motor buffs and step up competition for German car manufacturer Porsche, which has reported strong sales of its sporty models since launching operations in 2014.
The ford mustang’s manufacture has not yet disclosed the cost but the estimated price in regards to the global retail price is around 2 and 3.8 Million shillings and is set to boost its product range in the competitive new vehicles market.
Apart from that the mustang will be huddled together with 4 other ford models, these are the Ford Focus, Fusion, Ford Everest and Ranger and the interesting bit about these models is that they have never been available in the Kenyan showroom but they are very popular in the United States.
If you are a motor-enthusiast, you know that this might just be worth having.
