The Tourism Finance Corporation (TFC) has asked players in the hospitality industry to apply for funding from the corporation to set up projects that are eco-friendly.
TFC, a government’s main financial arm for the tourism industry, Wednesday said during the signing deal with UN-Habitat that the move is aimed at supporting investors in the tourism sector with funding to put up tourism facilities such as hotels and tents that promotes eco-tourism.
“The need for an integrated approach to sustainable development in the sector is urgent and this will enable them to prepare for future risks, act on opportunities and create more value for business and its stakeholders to also address climate change,” said TFC’s managing director Orumoi Jonah.
TFC said that the funding is primarily focused on developing innovative proHyducts, services and concepts that embrace sustainable renewable energy, with the partnership expected to offer stakeholders advisory facilities on the establishment of energy and resource efficient methods in design, construction, operation and maintenance of tourism facilities.
This will also include the use of energy-efficient appliances, water conservation and waste management.
