M-KOPA, a Kenyan based solar energy providing company has appointed Mugo Kibati as Chair of the Board of Directors.
He is the Group CEO of Pan Africa Insurance and Board Chairman of Lake Turkana Wind Power Limited, having previously served as Director General of Vision 2030 and Chief Executive Officer of East African Cables Limited. Mugo is a graduate of MIT and was selected as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum.
Jesse Moore, CEO at M-KOPA says that Mugo brings on the board experience in building successful regional businesses.
Speaking after his appointment, Mr. Kibati says Like many Kenyans, he has been following the progress and impact of M-KOPA for some time.
“I am inspired by what we can do, as a business, to transform the lives of millions of low income families in our country, our region and around the world.” he says
M-KOPA is also recruiting to its Nairobi-based executive team, as it tracks to connect one million homes by the end of 2017. In Q4 2015 it appointed Carl Thielk as Chief Operations Officer.
Carl was previously the Corporate Vice President of Operations at Motorola. And in January 2016 it appointed Yesse Oenga as Chief Commercial Officer. Yesse was previously Managing Director at Airtel Uganda and Chief Commercial Officer at Vodacom.
Moore says that he is thrilled to have Mugo, Carl and Yesse at M-KOPA adding that he is confident that they will each play a key role in helping the company scale across East Africa and beyond.
