Mass exodus at KQ as HR director bows out

Kenya Airways’ human resources director Sammy Chepkwony last week tendered his resignation from the troubled airline after five months of service from Tata Chemicals Magadi, joining a growing list of mass exits at the troubled national carrier.

In a memo addressed to the company staff, Mr. Chepkwony said the decision was personal “I have decided to tender my resignation and will be leaving the employment at the today 2nd November 2017 to pursue other interests,” he said in a short memo yesterday.

He becomes the sixth top executive to leave the airline in less than 12 months with others being, immediate former HR director Lucy Muhiu, Catherine Moraa, former head of internal audit, Ms. Muhiu formerly the head of employee relations, Kevin Kinyanjui who was in charge of information systems director as well as Brian Mbuti who was responsible for in-flight and jet fuel procurement. Christopher Oanda who had until last month had been in charge of KQ’s supply chain department also left.

“It has been an interesting time meeting and working with the KQ team across the network. I particularly enjoyed my participation in the transformation journey. I take this opportunity to thank you all for your valuable support and with you all the very best in the successful turnaround of the Pride of Africa (KQ). You will in due course be notified of who will take over the leadership of the HR team,” he said.
