Kenya Power Commits Sh15million towards CSR Projects

Kenya Power has committed KShs.15 million towards implementing community empowerment initiatives across the country.

Under its flagship employee-driven Corporate Social Investment Programme dubbed ‘Wezesha Jamii’ (empower communities), the Company is set to implement 26 CSR projects in the education, enterprise development, and social welfare and health sectors.

Through the Wezesha Jamii programme, employees identify and propose potential projects to be supported by the Company in line with its CSI strategy.

“We take pride in the impact of our community empowerment programmes. Shouldering the task of socio-economic development is increasingly considered a shared responsibility of the government and industry and as a company, we have a keen interest in contributing to the betterment of society,” said Kenya Power’s Ag. Managing Director & Chief executive Jared Othieno.

Wezesha Jamii programme was launched in 2018, with the company investing over KShs. 13 million to build facilities such as classrooms, laboratories, dormitories and ablution blocks for schools including special needs schools and vocational training schools.

In this second phase, the Company has committed to facilitate the projects proposed by the employees in various departments. The projects will be commissioned within 6 months.

The beneficiaries include; Emmaus Educational Centre, Olmanie Primary School, Elang’ata-Wuas Primary School, Mawani Primary School, Mum’s Love Children’s Home, Bethsaida Children’s Home, Gelegele Girls High School, Nakuru Hills Special School, Njoro Central Primary School, Matisi Girls Friends High School and Elunyiko Primary School.

Others are Odowa Primary School, Amaziah Learning Centre, Jina Primary School, Obalwanda Special School for the Disabled Children, Meru Hospice, Funannyata Primary School, Makwa Primary School, Ithangathi Girls Secondary School, Mahmoud Bin Fadhil Boys Primary & ECD Centre, Moyeni Primary School, Kenet ECDE & Primary School, Machakha RC Primary Special Education Unit, Kyome Primary School, Ruiru Primary School, Solai, and Okenge Mixed Secondary School.
