Bidco Africa has partnered with Danish drinks giant CO-RO to roll out a new beverages business in Kenya.
The joint venture, called BIDCORO Africa Limited, will manufacture a range of new drinks for the Kenyan market under the Dark Berry and Kalangala Kola brands.
Soft drinks company CO-RO produces in more than 80 countries, making it one of the world’s leading producers of fruit-based soft drinks and concentrates. Bidco Africa invited CO-RO into the joint venture in order to gain expertise from a global leader.
“Just like we took Unilever’s products and made them our own 10 years ago, Bidco will use CO-RO’s formulas and intellectual property to create leading brands in Africa,” said Vimal Shah, Chairman of Bidco.
In a nod to Shah, BIDCORO will offer a range of home-freeze ice lollies called Vimalicious.
“The CO-RO family is thrilled to partner with Bidco,” said company president Søren Holm Jensen. “For over 75 years, our know-how has enabled us to continuously refresh and delight consumers through innovative products that bring great taste and amazing experiences.”
BIDCORO is a 50-50 joint venture between Bidco Africa of Kenya and CO-RO A/S of Frederikssund, Denmark. CO-RO A/S is owned by the CO-RO Foundation, which is a commercial foundation.
CO-RO was founded in 1942 by Jep Petersen and currently has about 1,200 employees in Denmark, Asia and the Middle East.
