AXA Global Healthcare Friday announced collaboration with Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya Limited, underscoring its long-term commitment to the African market.
This landmark partnership, further solidified by an exclusive distribution agreement with Executive Healthcare Solutions Limited (EHS), is poised to drive substantial growth for AXA Global Healthcare within the international private medical insurance (IPMI) sector.
Effective October 1, 2025, all AXA Global Healthcare policies in Kenya will be locally underwritten by Old Mutual, a prominent health insurer in East Africa.
The partnership is designed to offer customers the best of both worlds: AXA’s global healthcare standards seamlessly integrated with Old Mutual’s trusted local market expertise, ensuring compliance with local regulations and delivery of best-in-class service.
Karim Idilby, Chief Growth Officer at AXA Health International, emphasized the strategic importance of this alliance: “Collaborating with Old Mutual represents a major milestone in our global growth strategy and, more significantly, in our enduring commitment to Africa.
Old Mutual’s leadership position in Kenya and across Africa makes them an ideal partner, particularly as we sharpen our focus on the Individual and SME strategic growth segments. Working with such a trusted market leader allows us to deliver meaningful value to customers while strengthening our ties within local markets.
Japheth Ogalloh, Managing Director of Old Mutual General Insurance Kenya, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We are excited to collaborate with AXA Global Healthcare to unite trusted local underwriting with world-class international health coverage. This collaboration empowers us to deliver high-quality solutions that genuinely address the evolving needs of individuals and businesses throughout Kenya.”
Further bolstering its presence in the region, AXA Global Healthcare has also entered into an exclusive distribution collaboration with Executive Healthcare Solutions (EHS) Limited.
This agreement, effective August 1, 2025, includes the renewal-based transfer of EHS’s existing IPMI customer portfolio across multiple African countries, encompassing both individual and SME clients.
AXA Global Healthcare and EHS will also jointly focus on attracting and serving new customers in selected markets.
As part of this agreement, EHS will serve as the sole distributor for the newly developed Global Executive Health Plan (GEHP).
This innovative product is designed to provide comprehensive global and regional coverage, closely aligning with existing customer benefits to ensure a seamless transition.
Andy O’Cain, Global Head of Distribution at AXA Health International, articulated the company’s ambitions:
“Our goal is to become the leading player in East Africa’s IPMI market, and this dual collaboration provides us with the perfect platform to achieve that. Following our successful partnership with Daman Insurance in the UAE – the world’s second-largest international health insurance market – we continue our strategy of building relationships with market leaders.
EHS’s deep regional expertise and extensive network, combined with AXA’s global strength, position us uniquely to deliver for both existing and new customers.”
Aly Maherali, CEO of Executive Healthcare Solutions, commented on the value of the partnership: “Our profound understanding of the African market means we know precisely what clients require from their international health coverage. Through collaborations such as this, we fully realize our vision of reimagining Global Healthcare in Africa. Having operated in Sub-Saharan Africa for over 25 years, we understand the market and are committed to meeting the needs of all our clients through efficient and customer-centric service.”
This announcement follows AXA Global Healthcare’s recent market expansion in the UAE, as the company continues to build momentum in key global growth regions.
