Kenya Airways Chief executive Sebastian Mikosz has stolen Sh1.3billion since his appointment to that position in May 2017, this is according to aviation workers.
The aviation workers under the umbrella body, Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) Thursday said that through the controversial take-over plan by the national carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), Mikosz has no interest at heart for Kenya Airways and its workforce.
“Why should Sebastian push such deal with zeal,” wondered the union’s secretary general Moss Ndiema, in a leaked letter sent to its member on 28th February, 2019.
“The answer is simple, he has failed to turnaround Kenya Airways and has stolen Sh1.3billion from the airline. He desperately needs to salvage his career and cover up for the theft,” reads the four-page letter which also questions Mikosz’ work permits and how he together with other foreigners working for KQ, as it known by its international code, were cleared to work in the country.
“We will be petitioning the immigration department to establish how work permits were issued to foreigners whose skills are readily available locally,” said Ndiema Thursday.
The group further believes that there’s more than meets the eye in the issues bedeviling the airline with corruption just being one of those.
“The take-over plan dubbed PROJECT SIMBA is an outright fraud. The genesis of the problems bedeviling the airline is well known. Corrupt procurement arrangements, poor decision-making and open looting by cartels that now want to extend their instable appetite to KAA at the expense of all Kenyans,” reads the statement.
KAWU also has an issue with KQ boss huge salary, who is said to be earning Sh8million as monthly perquisite, which is more than double what his predecessor Mbuvi Ngunze was earning, Sh3.5million.
