Volkswagen signs on as mobility partner for 2025 UCI Road World Championships
The move is part of the support of the cycling event being hosted on the African continent for the first time, where the car maker will provide 114 vehicles .
German car manufacturer Volkswagen (VW) has signed on to be the official mobility solutions partner for the UCI Road World Championships, to be held in Kigali, Rwanda, later this month.
The event, which will run from 21 to 28 September and is expected to welcome around 1,000 cyclists, is being held in Africa for the first time. Cycling is a popular sport in Rwanda, which will play host to the week-long championships.
An official signing and announcement were done earlier this month in Kigali, where Volkswagen – having a presence in the Rwandan capital through Volkswagen Mobility Solutions Rwanda (VWMSR) – committed to providing over 100 vehicles to the event. These vehicles will be available for use as transport for teams, officials, and logistics staff throughout the championship.
This collaboration also marks the official introduction of the all-new T-Cross 2025 as the car of the tournament, alongside models like the Amarok, Touareg, and ID.4, reflecting Volkswagen’s vision for modern, sustainable, and accessible mobility in Rwanda and Africa.

This collaboration ensures that the mobility needs of this global event are met sustainably, while also driving innovation and delivering lasting benefits for our communities,” said Nelly Mukazayire, Rwanda’s Minister of Sports.
Bringing the Championships to Rwanda marks a momentous occasion for the country, said Serge Kamuhinda, CEO of VWMSR. “After successfully becoming a preferred host for international conferences, Rwanda has recently built world-class sports infrastructure to become a sought-after sports event destination in Africa,” said Kamuhinda.
“VWMSR has supported the Tour du Rwanda event for the last three years, and we chose to be part of this historic event as well, as Volkswagen aligns with the values of performance and bringing people together to celebrate mobility.”
The event will also be made accessible to people across the continent through Volkswagen’s planned activations.
This includes a real-time daily video series sharing an inside look from the championships, as well as a variety of content produced by 10 influencers and content creators from across the African continent.
