Sports and leisure club, Wadi Degla Clubs has announced an investment of Ksh2.5 Billion in Kenya for construction of their second club in Nairobi.

The new club will be located in the Karen suburb on the land formerly known as Mamba Village Nairobi and will be the largest private multiple sports facility in the city.

Designed to be larger than the Runda Wadi Degla Club, the Karen club will have capacity to accommodate thousands of people engaged in various social, sports and leisure activities.

This announcement also makes Wadi Degla Clubs the single biggest investment by a private investor in the Nairobi sports and leisure market, these last few years. It will, according to Eng. Adel Samy, Chairman of Wadi Degla Clubs, give the network its 9th club in Africa.

“The Wadi Degla Concept is sparking a personal health and sports talent development revolution in Egypt. We want to expand the array of beneficial personal health programs, active lifestyle options and sporting career opportunities to more people also in Kenya.”

“That Wadi Degla have yet again chosen to invest in Kenya is a mark of confidence in the country and specifically the sports sector,” said Dr. Amina Mohammed, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary of Sports, Culture and Heritage.

Speaking at the same event Khaled Al-Abyad the Ambassador of Egypt to Kenya said friendship between the two countries has grown with sports noting that the investment in a second Wadi Degla Club would further grow the Kenya-Egypt ties. “Sports continue to support the development of relations and trade ties between our two nations,” he said.

He noted that recently, when Egypt held the Africa Confederation Cup tournament, Wadi Degla graciously welcomed the Kenya national team giving Harambee Stars players friendly reception to the games.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko said the construction of KarenWadi Degla Club would complement public funded efforts in the area of sports facilities and talent development. “The city of Nairobi is offering compelling incentives for private investors in sports and leisure as we aim to promote fitness and increase number of sporting facilities at the disposal of members of our society at various levels.”

Features of the Karen Wadi Degla Club include; heated recreational pools along with a semi Olympic swimming pool, a FIFA approved football pitch, walking and athletics track, and tennis and squash courts.

It will also have an indoor and outdoor basketball court; 10,000 square feet of gymnasium and spa space, martial arts centre, a spa centre and safe children play areas.

These sporting facilities will be strewn across a 15-acre parcel of land with lush river scenery and a breeze from a manmade lake. Restaurants, a salon & barbershop, luxurious lounges and executive member workspaces will be located near the clubhouse.

Karen Wadi Degla Club is expected to give members’ access to its second club in Kenya and another 7 more clubs in Egypt.
