Hisham Hendi has been appointed as Vodacom Tanzania’s acting managing director, effective as of 1 September. Hendi will hold the position until Sylvia Mulinge, an earlier appointment struggling to get a work permit from the Tanzanian government, can take office.
Hendi first joined the company in 2016 as Director of the Consumer Business Unit. He also has over fifteen years of commercial experience in the global telecommunications industry, which include commercial positions at both Vodafone and Vodacom Group.
“Mr Hisham Hendi has assumed the role of acting managing director from September 1, 2018 until such time the on-boarding process of the substantive managing director is completed,” read a statement from Vodacom posted on its website.
Hendi will fulfill the responsibilities of MD while Mulinge, who will be coming from Safaricom, awaits development concerning her work permit stalemate. Despite waiting since April to secure a work permit, Mulinge remains hopeful that the process will clear soon and that she can assume leadership at Vodacom Tanzania.
