Standard Gauge Railway revenues grow to Sh18.2 billion
Each SGR freight train has a capacity of 4,000 tons and can carry 108 TEUs. Their maximum speed is 80 kilometers per hour. Each passenger train can carry 1,096 people and the maximum speed is 120 kilometers per hour.
The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has reported impressive revenue growth in the last financial year, reaching a total of Sh18.2 billion.
This increase in revenue is a positive sign for the railway, as it continues to establish itself as a reliable mode of transport for both passengers and cargo.
The SGR has been a key infrastructure project for Kenya, connecting the port city of Mombasa to the capital Nairobi and beyond. Its ability to generate significant revenue demonstrates its importance in enhancing trade and connectivity within the country and the East African region.
The growth in revenue also highlights the potential for further expansion and development of the SGR network, which could bring even greater economic benefits to Kenya.
With continued investment and support, the SGR is poised to play an even more significant role in Kenya’s transport infrastructure in the years to come.
