Reckitt Benckiser Group plc (RB) has allocated over $2.2m worth of Dettol soap and Jik bleach for the support of people living with HIV across Africa.

Individuals living with the disease in Kenya will be supplied with hygiene packs that contain a three-month supply of product.

The initiative to distribute the hygiene packs is part of its Fight for Access Fund, which aims to improve access to health, hygiene, and nutrition for all.

“In an effort to stem the effects of the current pandemic during these unprecedented times, we are inspired by our fight to make access to high-quality hygiene a right, not a privilege. By partnering with UNAIDS, we can reach groups of vulnerable people who need access to our high-quality hygiene products the most,” says Sachin Varma, Country Manager, East Africa.

Brands like Jik play a critical role in promoting hygiene & surface disinfection. Thirty thousand bottles of Jik have been donated to serve people across Kenya.

“UNAIDS will be working closely with communities and networks of people living with HIV, specifically National Empowerment of Network of People Living with HIV (NEPHAK) and Women Fighting AIDS in Kenya (WOFAK) at a country level in the coming weeks to facilitate distribution of the hygiene packs from RB. As we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic in this region, it is important that communities lead and that we put people at the centre,” said Medhin Tsehaiu, UNAIDS Country Director in Kenya.

“Dettol has been in the forefront of prompting proper handwashing techniques and this has become even more prevalent now with the COVID-19 pandemic which is spread through person to person contact,” says Ibrahim Kabir, Country Manager Kenya.

The 90 000 bars of soap donated will go a long way in helping these vulnerable sections of society to stay safe.
