Oman Air launches direct flights on Nairobi – Muscat route

Oman Air, the national carrier of the sultanate of Oman Wednesday has announced the launch of its new four times weekly flight from Muscat to Nairobi, in an ambitious move set to boost trade and tourism ties between the two cities.
 
The new service by the airline will be operated by a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, 162-passenger fleet and will depart from Nairobi on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday to Muscat.
 
Speaking in Nairobi , Abdulrahman Al Busaidy, deputy chief executive of Oman Air revealed that the carrier is presently in talks with Kenya Airways on modalities to share flight paths through a code share agreement, with announcement to be made on April, 15.
 
“The launch of this route is a significant milestone for us, we have now set April 15 to announce code share agreement with Kenya Airways on how will share certain routes,” he said.
 
In March, 2016 Kenya Airways leased two Boeing 787 Dreamliners to Oman Air for a period of three years as well as buying KQ’s slot at London Heathrow in a deal worth USD65million.
 
Oman Air will use these additional Dreamliners among others on flights between Muscat and London.
Kenya Airways has nine Dreamliners into its fleet and are among the ones used on flights between Nairobi and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
