New tool to curb auto claim fraud unveiled

The Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI), Monday launched a Claims Registration Application (CRA) – a new tool expected to ease the process of reporting motor insurance claims for customers.

Motor insurance customers can download the AKI CRA App from their App Stores in their Smart phones. The App will require registration of the insured customer, the vehicle, and any other driver of the vehicle.

In the event of an accident or if someone witnesses an accident, the Application allows one to upload images and videos of the accident. The App also allows one to upload documents such as a police abstract, ID and driving license.

The App can geo-locate the accident scene, and provide contacts of the nearest ambulance, hospital, or towing services and notify the next of Kin about the accident. All this information is relayed to the insurance company to initiate the claims process.  Customers will receive progress reports of their claims via the APP.

“We have developed the application to make the process of reporting a motor insurance claim more convenient.

Customers can upload documents and images electronically instead of visiting the insurance company. Insurance companies on the other hand will receive claim information faster and the claims process can be initiated immediately” said Mr. Tom Gichuhi during the launch of the App.

Customers without a smart phone can use the short code *352# and select the option ‘Report a Claim’ and follow the prompts.

The Application creates a platform that brings together the players in the motor insurance space including the insurance company and services providers such as garages, ambulance, assessors, and investigators. AKI will also bring the Police on board to make the customer experience better.

The Association is working together with Insurance companies to have it as the main claims reporting channel.

This Application is part of the digitization journey that the Association has undertaken to make insurance more convenient and accessible for customers. In 2020, the Association adopted digital motor insurance certificates and has so far issued over 5 million digital certificates.
