Kansai Plascon paints has announced the expansion of its training programme targeting over 10,000 painters countrywide per year.

The programme, which initially targeted 3,000 painters annually, is poised to impart technical and entrepreneurial skills on painters across the country with a view to improving standards in the ever changing customer trends & preferences in the building and construction industry.

Speaking about the initiative, Kansai Plascon Managing Director Jamil Virjee explained that with the infiltration of unprofessionals who offer poor workmanship coupled with counterfeit paint products, certification of painters will provide proof of the quality of their services to homeowners and building contractors.

“Our initiative is geared towards giving back to the industry and contributing to the development of skills & knowledge to our painters. We have expanded this programme to empower the painters as our key stakeholders in our value chain and more importantly to help create a pool of certified painters who can be relied on to offer quality services and to train them to use latest technologies,” He said.

Jamil added that the training program will also help painters keep up with modern painting technology to enable them serve the end users better and to make customers enjoy the painting experience.

The modular training includes Painting and decoration, entrepreneurship; health and safety among other skills that will not only help them in their trade but also contribute to the economic development of the country.

Statistics from Kenya Economic Survey indicate production of paints, pigments, varnishes and allied coatings within the country have been increasing between five and 10 percent each year.
