The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) is seeking partnership with the Kenya Motorsports Federation (KMSF) to bring international bike rides to Kenya to showcase the country’s natural beauty through the sport.
KTB CEO June Chepkemei says that the marketing agency will work with relevant partners on improvement of campsites and other facilities to ensure that they are equipped to provide a comfortable resting place for riders to recharge and connect with fellow adventurers.
“We shall work with key partners to ensure that riders embarking on these journeys will have the opportunity to explore iconic landmarks scattered across the country, creating unforgettable memories along the way,“ Chepkemei stated.
Citing security as paramount for the riders as they move across the country, the CEO pointed out a need for collaboration with relevant agencies towards ensuring a full focus on the riders’ thrill of their journey.
“Our goal is to allow the riders to have a taste of Kenya, with its challenging terrains, while guaranteeing their safety and wellbeing. Kenya offers riders a unique and exhilarating experience, making it a must-visit destination for adventure biking enthusiasts.”
The CEO was speaking during the launch of a partnership with Inchcape Kenya, the official dealer for BMW and BMW Motorrad in Kenya, to elevate adventure tourism on two wheels across the country.
During the event, BMW launched the new R 1300 GS BMW Motorrad which is a product defined by its sleekness, power, performance, luxury, and comfort, making it a preference for many motorcycle enthusiasts, adventure seekers and the biking community.
“Today we had a ride from Nairobi, through the highway to Naivasha which was an amazing experience for 100 riders. We want to ignite Kenyans’ interest to travel within the country in the spirit of “Tembea Kenya”.
We are delighted to join forces with Inchcape Kenya in championing this cause and showcasing hidden gems through a platform that epitomizes going over and beyond conventional circuits of adventure,” added Chepkemei.
Currently, Kenya boasts an estimated 6,000 adventure riders, with over 500,000 riders spread across the continent, highlighting the growing popularity of adventure touring. KMSF is actively promoting leisure and touring activities that cater to this adventurous community.
“We are excited to embark on this journey with KTB to promote adventure biking tourism in Kenya,” Anne Wanyeki, Marketing & Customer Experience Manager, Inchcape Kenya.
“Biking offers a unique perspective of experiencing a destination, allowing travellers to engage with nature in the spirit of GS and making life a ride. The R1300GS speaks to a spirit of adventure and wanderlust and is an affirmation of living your dreams and fulfilling your passion for exploration. Through our partnership, we aim to inspire more people to embrace adventure biking as a mode of exploration and discovery” added Anne.
With over 500,000 adventure riders in Africa, Kenya is well-positioned to become a preferred destination for companies looking to host tours that cater to this growing market.
