Equitel customers now can talk and chat both offline and online longer with a 25 per cent bonus airtime for every purchase they make.
The bonus airtime, which is applicable to any amount of airtime bought, can be used to make calls and send SMSs across all networks and to also browse the internet and will run for the next two months.
Equitel users can buy the airtime through the Equitel menu, the EazzyBanking app or Equitel merchants.
Equitel allows users to carry out financial transactions in addition to making calls.
The latest quarterly statistics report from the Communication Authority (CA) shows that the value of transactions processed through Equitel stood at Ksh219.6 billion out of Ksh1.08 trillion that was transacted between July and September 2016, which translates to a 20 per cent market share.
This marked a 6 percentage point increase in market share from the preceding quarter which stood at 14 per cent (or Ksh139 billion of Ksh957 billion that was transacted overall).
According to the recent CA report, the number of Equitel subscribers as at September 2016 now stands at 2.09 million, making Equitel mobile service the fastest growing telco.
CA’s latest quarterly report further shows that Equitel users carried out 63.9 million transactions in the said quarter up from 56.9 million transactions in the preceding quarter.
