It was a double win for Britam as the company won the two most coveted awards at the CIO100 2015 annual Awards.
Britam was voted the Overall Winner among 100 companies during the 5th edition of the Awards, jointly organized by CIO East Africa publication and accounting firm PwC. The awards are held every year to celebrate organisations in the country that are using information technology to transform businesses processes.
The Group’s Chief Information Officer, Jack Maina, was also voted the CIO (Chief Information Officer) of the Year.
Britam was feted for Project Jawabu, the company’s ambitious IT enabled business transformation project. Launched in October 2014, this project has delivered a new era of convenience through improved business processes, enhanced structures and state of the art systems.
Jawabu is designed to transform the way Britam does business with the aim of maximizing shareholders’ value, containing the cost of doing business, and maximizing customer experience and brand equity.
In their citation, the judges noted that ”Jawabu has provided a single view of the customer, automated key business processes, reducing time consuming manual tasks and paperwork, effectively transforming the company into acustomer-centric organization,”
Jawabu had also created a single repository and multi access to customer profiles, centralized receipting, and centralized customer service.
Mr Maina was voted the CIO (Chief Information Officer) of the Year. This recognition was awarded to the CIO who delivered the Overall Winner of the Award.

“Maina managed a team of 160 staff, 60 of them on the project full time and 12 vendor partners with over 80 consultants to deliver on the project. He sold a vision to the company to rally behind a transformative project that would change the way people work and interact with their partners and customers,” the Judges said in their citation.

The annual CIO East Africa Awards, now in their fifth year, asses more than 100 companies that are using IT in innovative ways to deliver business value, by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.
