"Our systems remain uncompromised, and customer data has not been breached. We strictly adhere to global best practices in information security as well as relevant data protection regulations," Betika.

Betting firm Betika has denied an alleged cybersecurity breach and a supposed loss of KES 11 million, arguing that the company “employs advanced, multi-layered security systems including encryption, intrusion detection, continuous monitoring, and regular third-party audits.”

This followed various media inquiries regarding a supposed cyber-attack involving a university student, Seth Okwanyo, over the Sh11.4Million Betika cyber fraud case.

“We would like to unequivocally state that Betika has not experienced any cybersecurity breach, nor has the company lost KSh11 Million as has been suggested.

Betika is neither a complainant nor a victim in the matter currently before the courts. This fact can be independently verified with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), which is handling the case,” noted the firm in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr. Okwanyo, who is facing cyber fraud charges, was today released on bond after the prosecution failed to convince the court he should continue being detained and granted a bond of 500,000 shillings. Nairobi magistrate Mark Ekubi, however, cautioned Okwanyo against interfering with ongoing investigations. He was also directed to report weekly to investigating officers.
