Moringa School Celebrates 10 Years of Tech Education

By Staff WRITER

In a grand celebration of achievement and growth, Moringa School recently marked a pivotal moment in its history with a memorable graduation ceremony.

This event was not only a tribute to the school’s largest graduating class of 1,358 brilliant and talented individuals but also a commemoration of ten years of pioneering education in the tech industry.

The dual milestone underscored Moringa’s steadfast commitment to empowering students and shaping the future through technology.

The ceremony began with a compelling speech from Moringa school CEO Nikki Germany, who set a reflective and hopeful tone for the day.

She recounted Moringa School’s remarkable journey over the past decade, during which the institution has become a cornerstone of tech education in Africa.

With over 8,000 students trained, Moringa has established itself as a beacon of opportunity, particularly as the continent increasingly recognizes the immense value of tech skills.

Nikki emphasized the necessity of learning agility, urging the graduates to embrace lifelong learning and adaptability.

In a world where technology evolves at breakneck speed, these qualities are not just beneficial but essential for success.

“In this time of really dizzying change, a dizzying speed of change, incredible change, especially what’s happening in technology, the most important skill that you can carry with you into your careers of the future is the skill to know how to learn, the skill of learning agility, the skill of knowing that you’re going to be continuously learning for the rest of your career.

And so having a passion for that, knowing how to teach yourself how to learn, knowing where to look for the resources for you to continue to get the skills that you’ll need in the future, because it’s going to look very different than it looks now”, she said.

The ceremony’s grandeur was elevated by a panel of distinguished guest speakers, each bringing a wealth of knowledge and inspiration.

Winnie Rachel Atieno, the Country Manager at UNICAF delivered a powerful speech on the transformative power of technology.

She spoke passionately about the critical role tech skills play in addressing global challenges and highlighted the importance of a strong educational foundation.

Winnie Rachel encouraged the graduates to embrace innovation and continuous learning, underscoring that these are vital for making meaningful contributions to society.

“As you embark on your professional journeys today, remember that foundational tech skills are more crucial than ever, and I had Nikki mention the same when she was on stage and these skills are definitely a passport for your success in the technology-driven world.

So, whether you become a software developer, a data scientist, or enter in any other field, the grounding in technology will definitely enhance your adaptability and also open the door to your career,” said Ms. Atieno.

John Motogo from IBM and Dr. Zilpha Owiti from the ICT Authority deepened the discussion by emphasizing the ethical dimensions of technological progress. They stressed that while technology holds unprecedented potential, it must be guided by ethical principles to ensure it serves humanity.

A human-centered approach is crucial, they argued, to ensure technology enhances rather than diminishes the human experience.

Valedictorian Reflections and Future Aspirations

The voices of the graduates themselves were a highlight of the event, with valedictorians sharing their personal journeys and aspirations. Don Gitonga, one of the standout speakers, recounted his experience as a software engineering student.

He spoke eloquently about the indispensable role of technology in contemporary society and encouraged his peers to continue exploring and pushing the boundaries of innovation.

Don acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead but remained hopeful, believing in the power of dedication and innovative thinking to overcome obstacles and effect positive change.

“Depending on who you are, not everything will always work out, and that’s the sad thing.

Not everyone will be able to get a good enough job that meets their priorities, and so it’s understandable that many people decide to move towards something else that looks up for them or that works for them, and for me personally, I’ve been able to have the opportunity and the chance to get opportunities within my field,” commented Don Gitonga while emphasising the real cause of people pursuing different careers from what they studied in school.

Apart from Don, other valedictorians include Eunice Mbugua from the production design, and Brenda Ngugi who topped in Data Science class.

A Call to Action for a Bright Future

As the ceremony drew to a close, a unified message resonated from the speakers: the future belongs to those who are willing to adapt, learn continuously, and act ethically.

The graduates were reminded that they are now equipped with the tools and knowledge to become leaders and innovators in the tech industry. The world is watching with anticipation, eager to see the groundbreaking solutions and contributions that Moringa School’s Class of 2024 will bring forth.

This graduation ceremony was not merely a celebration of academic achievements; it was a powerful call to action.

It highlighted the essential role of technology across various sectors, including healthcare, industry, and education, and stressed the ethical responsibilities that accompany technological advances.

Moringa School’s 10th anniversary and the graduation of its largest class to date mark a significant chapter in the institution’s illustrious narrative. As these 1,358 graduates’ step into the world, they carry with them not only a wealth of technical knowledge but also a solid ethical foundation.

The future is incredibly bright for these new tech professionals, and the world eagerly awaits the innovative and responsible solutions they will undoubtedly create.
