E-commerce platform Jumia Kenya targets an estimated 16 million visits or 35 per cent of Kenyan internet users on its platform during this year’s annual Black Friday, formally unveiled last Friday.

The event, touted the biggest annual sale is expected to end on 29th November, and is themed The Biggest Save of the Year with Jumia customers to enjoy up to 90 per cent discount on 10 million products listed on its site.

“Our teams have been working hand in hand with vendors to offer our customers the best Black Friday. We will feature once-in-a-year discounts across 10M products, so there is something for everyone. The biggest deals will be exclusively on the Jumia App, commented Jumia Kenya Chief executive, Sam Chappatte.

Since the start of 2019, the share of Jumia’s sales originating from the App has continued to grow – reaching 48 per cent in October from 30 per cent in January.

“App-only deals will include discount vouchers, flash sales, golden tickets (50K voucher) and exclusive deals like Mbuzi for 1K and motorbikes (boda boda) at Sh100. Jumia customers will get free 6GB Airtel data, when they purchase smartphones from Jumia’s warehouse (Jumia Express), and up to an additional 10 per cent off when you pay with Airtel Money,” added Mr. Chappatte.

Google estimates that Kenya had 13 million active internet users in 2018, major campaigns like Black Friday are widely seen to help digitize the economy – providing a reason for customers to log on & save time and money.

This year’s Black Friday is expected to be the most inclusive yet, following the reduction in delivery fees across the country & with delivery capacity increases thanks to the partnerships with Posta & Wells Fargo.
