Tatu City on Thursday officially launched one of Kenya’s largest and most professionally designed outdoor gyms.
The state-of-the-art facility is now accessible to the public free of charge, quickly establishing itself as a central hub for fitness enthusiasts and families in the expansive 5,000-acre development situated at the outskirts of Nairobi,
The outdoor gym boasts a wide range of advanced equipment, including sky steppers, double health walkers, and rowers, accommodating users from beginners to seasoned fitness aficionados.
Complementing the gym is a thoughtfully crafted children’s play area, featuring swings, slides, and climbing structures, promoting an engaging environment for families and positioning the gym as a comprehensive recreational destination.
As outdoor gyms gain traction across Kenya and East Africa, attributed to a heightened awareness of health benefits and the impact of social media, more individuals are opting for open-air workout spaces, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many traditional gyms faced closures, leading to a surge in outdoor fitness environments in parks, trails, and residential areas. These facilities not only offer free access but also serve to encourage active lifestyles in communities, especially in lower-income regions where access to commercial gyms is limited.
Angela Muthoga, Events and Sustainability Manager at Tatu City said that the launch of the outdoor gym and play area marks an exciting chapter in the development of Tatu City.
“We are committed to providing our residents, businesses, and the general public with world-class facilities that enhance their quality of life. This gym offers a communal space for people to engage in fitness while enjoying the scenic beauty of Tatu City. A healthy nation is a wealthy nation.”
The outdoor gym is part of Sports@Tatu, a broader recreational hub that also features a 5-a-side football astroturf pitch and a standard-sized basketball court.
Tatu City further demonstrates its dedication to promoting active lifestyles with an extensive network of over 100 kilometers of pedestrian walkways, cycling paths, and picturesque nature trails, interconnected by The Green Link, a sustainable initiative aimed at enhancing accessibility to green spaces.
Kanana Ndegwa, Head of Marketing at Unity Homes said that they are thrilled to join forces with Tatu City to promote health and active living.
“We aim to create integrated living environments enriched with recreational options. The outdoor gym and Sports@Tatu facility align perfectly with our mission to offer family-friendly homes surrounded by ample green spaces and modern amenities.”
Tatu City’s commitment to sports and wellness remains unwavering, evidenced by its hosting of Kiambu County’s largest running event this year, attracting over 5,000 participants, alongside a notable cycling event featuring more than 500 professional cyclists competing on the city’s scenic trails.
The outdoor gym is conveniently located at City Park, adjacent to Unity Homes, and is open daily from 6 am to 9 pm, with no entry fees.
