Cross-border money transfer platform LemFi formally launched its services in Kenya this week.
Targeting Kenyans living abroad, particularly in the United Kingdom, United States, and Canada, LemFi offers a platform allowing customers to send funds directly to bank and mobile money accounts without incurring any transaction charges.
The app also supports multiple currencies, providing users with the convenience of opening and depositing money into various wallets.
LemFi’s app introduces a Kenya Shillings wallet feature, enabling customers to easily fund their accounts via mobile money.
LemFi Country Manager Kakea Mbacha emphasized the company’s mission to cater to the needs of Africans living abroad who maintain strong connections with their home countries.
“When Africans leave their countries to work, study or live abroad, they still maintain family, business and friendship connections back home. These connections are often maintained through communication and the need for effective ways to send and receive items and money from home. It is for this reason that LemFi exists,” said Mbacha.
LemFi’s operations in Kenya will be supported by its strategic partner, Pesa Swap, a local online and mobile payment solutions company based in Nairobi and the United Kingdom.
Chris Munyasya, CEO of Pesa Swap, highlighted the significant growth of diaspora remittances in the previous financial year, with a notable 50% of the funds being sent by women.
Munyasya stressed the importance of empowering individuals to access affordable money transfer services, thereby enabling a steady flow of funds to support their families and communities.
