Kylao Mbobu, a reknowned Nairobi lawyer was on Tuesday evening shot dead in a drive-by attack on Lang’ata Road in Nairobi.
Police reports indicate the victim, Advocate Mbobu was gunned down by an assailant on a motorcycle shortly after 7:30 p.m.
The motive of the attack was not immediately known. He was alone in his four-wheel-drive car at the time of the shooting, police said. His body lay on the driver’s seat after the shooting as police rushed to the scene less than a kilometer from the Galleria Mall.
Lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was also the former chairman of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal. He was also a lecturer at the Multimedia University, officials said.
According to Institute of Directors Kenya (IDK), Kyalo Mbobu was a distinguished legal practitioner and governance expert with over 29 years of experience as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
As the Senior Partner at Kyalo & Associates Advocates, a Nairobi-based law firm, Kyalo led a team providing high-quality legal services in commercial litigation, arbitration, and corporate governance. He served as Chairman of the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal, where he oversaw the resolution of disputes within Kenya’s political landscape, ensuring fairness and adherence to legal standards.
Additionally, as a Trustee of Corat Africa, he contributed to governance and strategic oversight for the organization’s mission in capacity building across Africa.
Kyalo also held chairmanship roles at Quest Holdings Ltd and Core Capital Group Ltd, where he drives strategic leadership and fosters sustainable growth in the private sector.
An accomplished academic, Kyalo was also a lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UON) School of Law and the Kenya School of Law (KSL), where he imparted knowledge in legal practice, governance, and alternative dispute resolution.
He held a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with Honours and a Master of Laws (LL.M) from Georgetown University, complemented by his status as a Certified Public Secretary of Kenya (CPS-K) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb, London, Kenya Branch). His expertise in arbitration and mediation was recognized both locally and internationally, making him a sought-after practitioner in dispute resolution.
